Apparently the actor Marlon Brando was a cat lover, as evidenced by these adorable man-cat photos.
I just set my DVR to record the new TV show “Must Love Cats” which is starting this Saturday on Animal Planet. I haven’t even seen the show yet, but based on the website for the show and this interview with host John Fulton, I already have a major crush on him. A super-cute musician who loves cats?! I can’t wait to see this show!
UPDATE: I have seen the show and LOVE it!! My new favorite tv show.
John Lennon was killed thirty years ago today, and the New York Times had some pieces on the Op-Ed page remembering him – including one from Yoko Ono where she talks about John’s love for cats:
JOHN and I are in our Dakota kitchen in the middle of the night. Three cats — Sasha, Micha and Charo — are looking up at John, who is making tea for us two.
Sasha is all white, Micha is all black. They are both gorgeous, classy Persian cats. Charo, on the other hand, is a mutt. John used to have a special love for Charo. “You’ve got a funny face, Charo!” he would say, and pat her.
Of course, Menandcats.com is not at all surprised that a talented, artistic, and inspiring man such as John Lennon was a tremendous cat lover.
I’ve been a big fan of writer (and fellow Brooklynite) Jonathan Ames for ages – but somehow I didn’t know that he was a man who loves cats until I was recently listening to an episode of comedian Marc Maron’s podcast “WTF with Marc Maron” where Jonathan mentions the cats in his apartment, and how his landlord’s cat loves to hang out with him. Further research lead me to this photo and article from the NY Post, where he talks more about “Minimus, his landlord’s cat.”
Marc Maron himself is a noted ailurophile – he refers to his home as the “cat ranch” and he lives with multiple cats. He’s posted several videos online featuring his cats, and he did an interview with Paw Nation where he talks about adopting feral cats.
I already enjoyed the work of both Jonathan and Marc- knowing they love cats only makes me admire them even more!
Apparently, the new Chief of Staff for President Obama, Pete Rouse, loves cats. And he’s a two-cat man! The Baltimore Sun says, “CNN puts it like this: Everyone from [Tom] Daschle to Senate Minority Whip Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggests that the key to getting on Rouse’s good side is to express interest in his cats – two loyal companions who never ask him about policy and politics at the end of a long day.” And Canada’s National Post thinks Pete Rouse’s feline love “bodes well for international relations” since Canadian “Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife, Laureen, have shared a “mutual love of cats” since they first met.” Gawker says Rouse is “obsessed with cats.”
